UK home furnishings retailer

Post Merger Integration following acquisition of a leading online furniture retailer

What we did:

This “bricks & mortar” high street retailer recognised a need to develop a stronger ecommerce proposition as it was starting to lose market share. It acquired a leading online furniture retailer and sought to use this to develop its online presence and build their online capabilities across the organisation. Working with the Executive, we developed a clear set of goals defined around ecommerce growth, PMI synergy savings and operational capabilities. With these set, we worked closely with leadership teams to define a new operating model integrating the capabilities of both organisations into one business. A new organisation structure was defined around the future state processes, as well as rationalisation of supply chain operations. Investment was identified to bring about the new operation as well as developing a single ecommerce channel with the requisite people, data & system capabilities to deliver upon the vision.

Business outcomes:

  • Re-engineered commercial functions (buying, merchandising, marketing, ecommerce) across 2 organisations and implemented new ways of working.
  • Created detailed value creation plan covering synergy savings (people & process consolidation) and ecommerce growth leading to a 20% uplift in EBITDA within 2 years.
